Egypt is a country located in North Africa with a rich history dating back to ancient times. Egypt is known for its impressive pyramids, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics. The civilization had a significant impact on the world, particularly in the areas of architecture, art, and religion. The legacy of ancient Egypt is evident in modern Egyptian culture and the world's fascination with this ancient society.
Ancient Egypt was part of the Fertile Crescent and was an agrarian society centered around the Nile River. The Ancient Egyptian writing system, hieroglyphics, was comprised of signs and symbols and has left us a good record of what the society was like. Egyptian women, particularly those in the upper classes, had more rights than women in other parts of the ancient world but, like other societies of the time, Ancient Egypt was still male-dominated. The style of Ancient Egyptian art changed little over time and included drawings, paintings, sculptures and monumental architecture. It depicted gods, humans, battles and nature. Art was also designed to provide comfort and assistance in the afterlife, so many pieces have been found in burial tombs.
